PLEASE SOMEONE GET ME THAT F-ING JACKET ;___________;
DO WANTS
Hello~ so if my followers didn’t already know, I listen to a lot of kpop. I apologize if this doesn’t interest you >: you can go ahead and scroll past this! I also apologize for any bias there may be in these review D:
The groups I am going to review are Block B, Boyfriend, B1A4, A Pink, f(X), 2PM, and B2ST.
First up will be the boy rookie groups!
Now, out of all the rookies group who have come out in this half of 2011, I would have to favor Block B the most.
Block B

From the top center (going clock-wise) the members are Zico, Jaehyo, Kyung, Taeil, B-Bomb, P.O, and last but not least U-Kwon.
These boys are something different. Now, I will be honest, when Freeze came out, it took a couple of good listens to really get into the song. It felt like a club song, which I didn’t mind but I was studying for Japanese at the time so I wanted something new to study to. ( n____n lame i know) BUT I DID GIVE IT A COUPLE OF MORE LISTENS, and boy did the song get stuck in my head. It was such a fun song! When I showed my friends however, they were not too impressed. They felt that they were not too special amongst other groups that were promoting at the time, especially since it was their debut song. I understand their sentiments, but for me, before I can fully judge a group, I had to listen to their other songs.
Now that their New Kids on the Block album came out, I have to say that I am in love. I honestly would not know how to describe their music. It’s a little bit of everything that I love in a group. The rapping is phenomenal, the singing is quality, their voices are distinct, and most importantly their energy cannot be contained. When I listen to Halo, they’re so raw. It definitely showcases their skills as hip hop artists. But when I listen to Tell Them, it felt like a roller coaster musically. And I loved it. Its starts of calm, rolls into rapping with P.O’s bass voices leading towards a calm bridge and then the fun, catchy chorus. As the song progresses further, each of the members have their shining moments. The song may be a little rough around the edges in some parts but it almost suits them. This album also has another new song called U Hoo Hoo, and the songs from their previous Do U Wanna B? album.
What is even more impressive about their music is that they do almost everything! They put their albums together from their song writing to their poses on the album jacket. Their producer, Cho PD (who also has a tumblr!), literally kicks back and watches them giving small advice here and there. To add to that, their lives are FLAWLESS. It’s like hearing the audio all over again, not to mention, their stage presence is impressive, especially on their debut stages! Although there were issues as to how much stage time they had, they still did all that they could each and every time.
Next up is their ‘rival’, BILASA.
B1A4

Ahh I wish I had a better compiled image of them x___x
Anyways had to cheat a bit on this one on who the members are since I’m not too sure SO from left to right the members are Baro, Sandeul, Jinyoung, Gongchan, and CNU.
I also won’t lie and say that from the start, I hated disliked them. When O.K came out, I could not help but dislike the song. Everything that presented the song just made me dislike it even more. From their music video (which I agree with Eat Your Kimchi, it was TERRIBLE) to their stage performances. Their stylists didn’t help either! I’m sorry, I cannot help but just HATE HATE HATE CNU’s long hair. Even though it is long, it could have been styled a LOT better to match the rest of the group. ALSO THOSE GLASSES. UGH. I was just not sold on the entire concept. I’m terrible I know, but it gets better! I promise!
But for this review I gave their entire an album a listen, and I like them a little better. I really like the rapping bits, the singing isn’t too bad, and some of the choruses from the album are just catchy (yes even O.K). I suppose what bothers me about them as a group is that do not have a definite identity. Even though some of their songs are not too bad, they are all ‘cookie cutter’ songs. I hope to see more personality from them as well.
Since their Only Learned the Bad Things video came out, I do like their “cleaned” up image. It’s definitely a different side of them that I can appreciate. However, their company needs to hire better directors or something. My beef with the video is that they walk into a True Religion Store, and Baro comes out of the fitting room with an Abercrombie and Fitch shirt. WHAT THE FUU- alsdfjlksdjf anyways…
Overall, they can sing, rap, and even dance (from what I can tell). Not too bad B1A4! (I will still call you Bilasa out of convenience) I can honestly say that I look forward to their future work as they define who they are and hopefully have a more personal touch on their music.
The next rookie group is…
Boy Friend

In the back row from left to right, the members are Hyunseong, Kwangmin, Donghyun, and Jeongmin. In the front row, Minwoo is on the left and Youngmin is on the right. (If this is incorrect let me know! I’m still learning!)
A few months ago, Starship Entertainment released news of a boy group that will be released that will have twins. This was awesome. I personally have not seen a kpop group that had twins in it before so I thought this was really interesting. A few photoshoots and a teaser later, the group Boy Friend debuted with the song…well Boyfriend. For me, despite the song being very redundant and simple (so simple it’s actually kind of sad), what really got me was the music video and the dancing, oh gosh the dancing! Don’t even get me started when the practice video was released! This group really got the ‘cute’ image down. What’s also nice is that they can also pull off the more ‘sexy/idk what to actually call it’ look as shown in their teaser. The most notable song from this album would actually have to be You and I. This song definitely hit me hard as it is not as upbeat as their other two songs and yet when it does pace up in the chorus, it still remains to be an almost soft spoken song. The rapping is cleaning as is the singing. I almost wish they promoted this instead but, hey, no complaints here.
Although over half of the members are underaged(the twins (Youngmin and Kwangmin), Jeongmin, and Minwoo), the other third of the members are of age so that you won’t feel like such a noona. What is disappointing about their young age is that they are still developing not only their voices but their entire body as well. So there will probably be a limited about of promotion. In addition, school will probably get in the way from time to time so I’m expecting this group to disappear from time to time like TEEN TOP did >:
There is a lot of potential in this group, but we will have to wait and see if they can reach that point.
Interesting sets of boy groups have come out, but for me, if you could not tell already, the winner of this round is Block B.
Sorry followers for the long post ;___; Since this got so long I will split this review up into different rounds. Next round will be the girl groups, and then the remaining boy groups!
If you have a different opinion message me and let me know! I want to see what everyone else thinks about these groups.
Who do you think is the best group to come out this year so far?
Who will win?
For what is this?
PS: So Taeil’s hair is orange now. Ah, I see. My blockbuster boys look so.. dasdkaljka
